This Biathlon arena for Asian Winter Games was established in January 1972 for the Winter Olympics of that year and used for biathlon events. Today it is used as a venue for numerous events, including the Asian Biathlon Championships and the Biathlon Japan Championships.

Competing for Australia at the Asian Winter Games will be Darcie Morton (NSW/AUS), Jillian Colebourn (VIC/AUS), Damon Morton (NSW/AUS) and Jeremy Flanagan (VIC/AUS).

The athletes will compete in the Sprint and Individual event and be trying to qualify for the Pursuit and Mass Start. Australian will also enter the Mixed Relay event.

For the athletes attending, the Asian Winter Games (AWG), it will be the last event on a long overseas season. Damon Morton will be coming too this event having achieved his best ever international biathlon results and achieving the qualification standard for 2018 Winter Olympic Games and World Cup.

Flanagan and Colebourn's season saw them enter IBU Cup for the first time and represent AUS at Winter University Games.

Darcie Morton, the youngest of the athletes, also entered IBU Cup for the first time and successfully qualified for season 2017-18, plus achieved a career best of 39th at IBU Junior Cup No 3.
