2018 NSW Laser Biathlon Junior Series HOWZAT!

Published Fri 31 Aug 2018

What a fantastic NSW Laser Biathlon Junior Series was held on Monday 20th August 2018. With the sun shining and no wind, the Junior Series opened with 132 competitors ranging from 7yrs old to 18yrs old.

Our youngest competitors in Division 6 Participation started the day, skiing a Range loop and getting into the swing of loop skiing with laser shooting in between their loops. The competition then hotted up with the older Divisions, putting into racing what they had been practicing over the previous 3 training days. This year, the 2 shooting format was expanded to include Division 4, and the increased number of shootings was a great success, with the accuracy of a high standard.

Division/Age Year winners were spread across both local Jindabyne and Sydney athletes and a range of schools. It was great to see the increased interest in biathlon from last year’s event, especially from those who shoot for their school’s sporting team.

Congratulation to Jindabyne Central School which won the Participation and Achievement Award for the Female School and Cranbrook who won the Male Schools Award.

NSW Biathlon would like to say a very big thank you to the following people without whose support and assistance the Junior Series Event would not have been so successful:

  • Friedl Bartsch – supplier of the laser rifles and target system
  • Adrian Blake – official timer
  • National Parks & Wildlife Service for use of the Ranger Station
  • Fischer Australia for sponsorship and prizes
  • Our School Volunteer officials who counted penalty misses and penalty loops
  • Rob Kneller Youth Foundation (RKYF) for their support of the local Jindabyne athletes
  • Cameron Morton for traveling from the Australian Biathlon Championships at Mt Hotham, arriving in Jindabyne at 10pm and then assisting at the Junior Series from 7am on Monday!
