2019 NSW Laser Biathlon Sprint Championships
Published Sun 07 Jul 2019
It was a talented group of biathletes that were part of the 2019 Sprint Championships which were relocated to a dry-land event due to the lack of snow on the Perisher XC trails and Laser Biathlon Range.
Due to its dry-land location, the event was modified to include a Sprint Time Trial, Junior and Senior Mass Start and a Single Relay format, to give the athletes lots of practice in approaching the Range and shooting their lasers with an elevated heart rate.
Loops of the bitumen surrounding the athlete track were roller-skied numerous times to ensure a competitive distance was part of each event, with senior athletes shooting prone and standing. Athletes raced in their age groups with an interval start, in a mass start senior and junior format and were matched with a team-mate to form equally competitive relay teams based on the results of the time-trial.
This allowed each athlete to race themselves, their junior or senior counterparts and then join up in a fun relay format to round out the day’s racing.

NSW Biathlon would like to thank the athletes who were able to continue to support the event in its dry-land format, the many parent volunteers who assisted to ensure the event could proceed and NSW Office of Sport Jindabyne Sport and Recreation for their support to ensure an event could be held.
