2020 Winter World Masters Games
Published Sun 02 Feb 2020
Every 4 years the Winter World Maters Games are held and host most of the traditional winter Olympic sports. The 2020 Games were no exception and 4 intrepid Biathletes made the journey from Down Under to Seefeld, Austria, which was the main venue for the majority of the Nordic disciplines.
The Aussie team consisted of Sue Donoghoe (W55), Peter McCartney (M65), both from Canberra (ACT), Lindsay Bridgford (M55) from Melbourne (VIC) and Friedl Bartsch (M60) from Wolllongong (NSW).
Three events were possible which included Individual (45 sec time penalty), Sprint (100m penalty) and Relay. With good skiing and excellent shooting the Aussie masters managed to return Down Under with 1 Gold for the M55 (Lindsay Bridgford) and 2 Silver in the M60 categories (Friedl Bartsch).
In addition, at the final medal ceremony, a special award was also given to an Aussie (Friedl Bartsch) for being the only biathlete to shoot clean (40/40) for the entire competition. Something not common the international world championship level!
