2020 IBU Youth & Junior World Championships
Published Sun 02 Feb 2020
Izzy Moon, Darcie Morton, Will Neuhaus and Archie Gordon represented Australia at 2020 IBU World Juniors at Lenzerheide in Switzerland (SUI). The event was held over 11 days from 27 Jan 202 to 2 Feb 2020.
Australia has 5 athletes attending and it was a very strong representation from the BEA Associations and Clubs to form 80% of the AUS team. The event was held under great weather conditions with plenty of snow and sunshine. IBU World Juniors is the pinnacle young athlete’s competition held in biathlon each year and the standard of competition is very high. Youth athletes are U19 and Juniors are U22.
The athletes competed in two events each, being Individual (4 shoots, 5 laps, time penalties) and Sprint (2 shoots, 3 laps, ski penalties), with the top 60 athletes in the Sprint qualifying for the Pursuit.
Each of the athletes performed on a solid basis and continued their biathlon development. Darcie Morton did not start in the Junior Women Individual due to illness advising BEA
“I’ve had an itchy throat for the past 3 days and wasn’t completely better today so after a lot of consideration I decided it was best not to start and just get better for my upcoming IBU Cup races.”
We congratulate the athletes on their results and qualifying to represent Australia at World Juniors – a very good achievement - and look forward to seeing them back in Australia.
