2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games Done and Dusted!

Published Wed 22 Jan 2020

Lulu Miskin, Chelsey Johnson and Isabella Moon have most successfully competed their Winter Youth Olympics Games campaign. The girls competed in the 10km Individual and 7.5km Sprint and each had the opportunity to race in a Mixed Relay.

It’s been a great journey for the girls with Lulu and Isabella starting biathlon together under the guidance of their coach Lucy Glanville in 2016 with an eye focussed on qualification for the Youth Olympics in 2020. Chelsey Johnson joined them in late 2018 and immediately the 3 girls bonded and became the "dream trio" to qualify for 2020.

The girls all have each developed different strengths so far in their biathlon careers with Lulu balancing both her ski speed and shooting for remarkable consistency, Chelsey shooting almost perfectly (28/30) across her events at Winter Youth Olympics and Isabella's speed on her skis a major factor in her results.

We asked the girls what was best about going to the 2020 WYOG and what advice would they give aspiring 2024 attendees:

Best

Chelsey Johnson “I’ve always been super keen to represent Australia at something, so being selected, getting the team uniform were all pretty exciting and the mixed relay was a lot of fun.”

Izzy Moon “The environment created was so fun and all the people from the Australian team and other nations I was able to meet and get to know.”

Lulu Miskin “The best thing about the WYOG for me, was having the opportunity to meet people from Australia and other countries in biathlon as well as other winter sports.”

Advice

Chelsey Johnson “Always try your best and know that anything is possible in biathlon selection races and the games themselves. Train hard, surround yourself with people who support you and believe in your ability. Enjoy the experience as it just flies by!”

Izzy Moon “Train as hard as you can leading into the games and truly enjoy the experience and all the games have to offer.”

Lulu Miskin “Do whatever you can to make that goal a reality. It’s an experience that makes the hard work and sacrifices worth it!”

The girls delivered some fantastic results with PB’s in both shooting and skiing. Biathlon East Australia congratulates them and wishes them all the best in the on-going development of their biathlon careers.
