The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has announced the first 13 athletes selected for the Australian Team for Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), with NSW biathletes Isabella Moon, Lulu Miskin and Chelsey Johnson all announced as part of the team.

NSW Biathlon congratulates the 3 girls and their coach Lucy Glanville (WYOG Innsbruck 2012, OWG Sochi 2014) on their hard work over the past 3 years to train, qualify and then be selected for Lausanne in 2020.

It’s a fantastic achievement for the girls with a journey that started in 2016 when Lucy Glanville stood at the end of a NSW Interschools XC Nationals event in 2016 and looked at Lulu Miskin and Isabella Moon and said – “We are going on a journey and that journey will end with your selection to 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games!”

Since that date, Lucy has coached and mentored Lulu and Isabella in biathlon over the past 3 years in Australia and last season travelled overseas with them as they trained and competed in Europe to assist Australia achieve the maximum of 3 female quota spots for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics.

As well as successfully coaching Lulu and Isabella, Lucy also saw potential in the third selected biathlete, Chelsey Johnson. Lucy had coached Chelsey in XC skiing for a number of years at the Interschools level (Lucy and Chelsey attended the same school PLC Sydney) but saw in Chelsey given her background as a snowboarder and triathlete, the potential for biathlon.

Amazingly, and with Lucy’s encouragement, Chelsey picked up a biathlon rifle for the first time in Oct 2018, and such was her talent and commitment and along with Lucy’s coaching support and guidance, Chelsey became the 3rd female selected to attend 2020 WYOG for biathlon.
