2022 NE Victoria Interschools Summer Biathlon Relay Competition

On Friday 20 May 2022, Telemark Nordic Ski Club and SSAA Biathlon Wodonga held their annual North Eastern Victoria Interschools Summer Biathlon Relay Competition. The event took place at SSAA Biathlon Wodonga shooting range and included foot running and small-bore rifle shooting
There was much excitement on the day, and students had been undertaking specific training sessions for the annual event. Schools represented at the event included The Scots School Albury, Catholic College Wodonga, Trinity Anglican College, Victory Lutheran College, Wangaratta High School, Sacred Heart Cootamundra, and Canberra Grammar School. At 10am, the competitors arrived for a short training session and race briefing.
Relay heats began at 11:30am, followed by the finals at 2:15pm. Jimmy Shannon and Robbie Bailey (Scots) won the junior boys title, with a time of 7.08. Brothers Edward and Samuel Johnson (Canberra Grammar) won the senior boy’s event, in a time of 5.22. Finally, the girls relay was won by Shona Donald and Becky Ploughman (Scots) with a time of 7.46.
Students from Charles Sturt and Macquarie University took part in a demonstration roller ski biathlon sprint event. The sprint was won by Wodonga’s Jorja Cullen with the metal silhouette event being won by Bailey Coulston (Scots).
It was absolutely great organisation by Telemark Nordic Ski Club and SSAA Biathlon Wodonga to host such a fantastic event which was enjoyed by the athletes and spectators. Congratulations to the schools and students who produced such wonderful results on the day. Can’t wait until 2023!
