A Smashing Week 3!
Published Sat 01 Aug 2020
The snow finally fell in Week 3 of the Biathlon East Australia School Holiday program.
Over 60cm in one day, which took 3 days to pack and prepare for the biathlon range to become operational. The week 3 program focussed on shooting in the morning sessions and XC ski training in the afternoon sessions. With two coaches for every day, the sessions were able to ensure biathletes of like ability and experience were grouped and able to get the most out of the sessions. This was particularly important for our pathway athletes as it was their first time on the XC ski trails in Perisher this winter.
Our on-going partnership with Snowy Shooters in Berridale, also ensured BEA's pathway athletes were able to continue to train their .22 skills with afternoon sessions being held at the Snowy Range in Berridale. The athletes were able to shoot on metal biathlon targets for the first time thanks to the assistance and support from our member club, Alpine Rifle Club, Snowy Shooters and NSW Firearms Registry for their approval of IBU Biathlon at the Berridale Range. This is a major step forward to develop biathlon in NSW and we’d like to congratulate our member association, NSW Biathlon Association, for their great work in obtaining recognition of IBU Biathlon as a shooting match in NSW.
With the lack of racing for 2020, due to COVID19, it was great to see the athletes working hard and developing their skills in both XC skiing and biathlon.
