Alpen Cup No 2 – first 2018 hit-out for Archie and Darcie
Published Sat 20 Jan 2018
A great start to 2018 for NSW Biathlon athletes Darcie Morton and Archie Gordon. Competing at Alpen Cup No 2 at the Hochfilzen World Cup Range in Austria, Darcie bounced back to some good form after illness over the Christmas break, finishing 19/45 in the Youth U19 Girl’s Sprint. Darcie shot (0,2) finishing just 1min.31.5secs behind. .
With no misses in the standing, Darcie would have finished in the top 5!
Archie, competing in his first ever biathlon race ever, took it slowly and carefully as you do in Biathlon when you first start and try to remember all your Coach has trained you on. Archie’s shooting was extremely good missing 7/20 in the Individual and 4/10 in the Sprint. Getting experience and learning is exactly what is needed when an athlete first starts racing biathlon, as there is so much to remember!
The Alpen Cup circuit is one below IBU Junior Cup and is run by the Alpen nations of GER, AUT, SLO, SUI. There are 4 competitions each season from Dec to March and the standard is high.
Darcie and Archie will next race in Slovenia in the SLO Cup IND where Damon Morton will join the Team in between racing IBU events for Australia.
