Back on the Roller-Skis!
Published Sun 24 May 2020
The BEA athletes were back on their roller skis today for the first time in 9 weeks.
Ensuring strict compliance with the requirements for groups of 10 (including coach) the athletes were put through their paces, with long slow loops of the Newington Armory bike trails, hill work on the steeper sections and then practiced their prone and standing shooting at the laser range.
For an extra twist the Range loop involved an agility circuit working on balance, corner stepping and range approach pacing. The session ran for up to 2hours with the older athletes using the extended time to work on their technique, endurance, hill work and getting on/off their biathlon mats.
We had a number of athlete progress to the smaller prone-on-prone targets (45mm diameter) from their usual prone-on-standing (90mm diameter). They were able to appreciate the greater accuracy and concentration required with the smaller target size.
All in all, it was a great session for our first venture outside since March and thanks to coaches, Lucy, Phoebe and Chelsey for their coaching support and to our diligent Range assistants who disinfected mats and rifles after athlete use.
