Biathletes are Made in Summer
Published Sat 25 Jan 2020
Like many sports, biathlon has much focus for training and developing skills in the “off-season” when the athletes are not racing. As biathlon is a winter snowsport, that means in the warmer summer months, there is much focus on development away from the snow or dryland training.
Training for endurance skiing and speed is developed, steadiness for shooting and building concentration skills, new more efficient techniques are learnt. Activities include roller-skiing, bike riding, shooting drills for laser and .22 and of course time for socializing and building team spirit and friendships.
While many biathletes spend the Australian summer time overseas training and competing on snow, there are many who also stay in Australia. For Sean’Hope Craig and Chilli Sparke, they spent their summer months building their friendship and developing their biathlon skills.
Shooting, roller-skiing, swimming, hanging-out and at the end of a big day, resting! We look forward to seeing Seanie and Chilli in the competitions this year as it seems they had much fun over summer!
