Biathlon ACT School Holiday Training Weekend
Published Mon 07 Oct 2019
Biathlon ACT’s first summer training camp after the winter on-snow season was held from 3rd - 6th October at Canberra Rifle Club.
It was a good mix of high performance and development athletes with high performance athletes including Archie Gordon, Darcie Morton and Isabella Moon taking part before their departures for Europe in the next few weeks.
They were joined by Sam Martin and Sean’Hope Craig at the Range and on the roller-skis with Damika Morton and Daisy Craig focussing on laser shooting and roller-skiing.
The Camp covered technique on roller-skis and at the Range. Endurance sessions were a focus on the roller-skis, together with running to elevate heart rate at the Range for shooting practice. All athletes are noticing improvements in their technique, which is leading to an increased level of accuracy.
The Camp also provided live-in accommodation and catering and a great atmosphere of team-work and support was encouraged. While Biathlon might be an individual sport, the best biathletes are supported by great team relationships and comradeship.
Many thanks to Canberra Rifle Club for their ongoing support and provision of their facilities for biathlon. A special thank you to Sue Donoghoe for providing supervised Australian Biathlon Review so athletes can be marked as competent in biathlon shooting, to allow them to take part in competitions on-snow.
And........... great to see Australian National XC Team member, Seve de Campo, join the biathletes for Sunday afternoon's classic roller-skiing session!
