Canberra Training Weekend - 24 & 25 Feb 2018
Published Mon 19 Mar 2018
A very busy weekend for the athletes attending our first Training Camp of 2018. The weekend involved both .22 and laser shooting at the ACT Smallbore Rifle Club, roller-skiing, fitness and agility work plus a mountain bike session.
Canberra offers some great training venues and the Gordon family’s hospitality at The Farmhouse was second to none!
The athletes started their first session roller-skiing on the Majura Parkway bike path with the younger/newer athletes focussing on their technique and balance while the older athletes used the session to get in some long slow distance on their roller-skis.
After a short break, it was over to the ACT Smallbore Rifle Club for a standing/prone shooting session working on one-shot drills and technique with balancing and agility exercises for the laser shooting U12’s.
After lunch, the athletes headed off for a mountain bike session in a great shady patch of nearby forest and finished off with a swim in the Dam!
Sunday morning involved a joint roller-ski session with ACT Cross County at the Mt Stromlo Criterium Circuit. The athletes split onto 3 groups with their ACT counterparts, again focussing on skills and technique, based on development stage and competency.
Camp finished at lunchtime Sunday giving everyone plenty of time to depart for home. All in all, great training, great hospitality including the highlight of toasting marshmallows over the campfire on Saturday evening!
Well done to the athletes who attended, it was a weekend focussed on training with time for a bit of fun between sessions!
