Cross Country Champions of Australia!

Published Sat 05 Aug 2017

Some great results by the NSW Biathletes at the 2017 Australian XC Junior Championships.

Darcie Morton (Junior/U20) and Lulu Miskin (U16) became dual 2017 AUS Junior XC Champions at Falls Creek last weekend. Both athletes had fabulous weekends of racing winning their Freestyle Distance race, Classic Time Trial and Classic Sprint.

Darcie Morton was also awarded the Otto Pinkas Trophy for Open Junior Female XC Champion.

Other great results were achieved over the weekend from Isabella Moon, Phoebe Cridland, Saskia Moon, Bentley Walker-Broose and Jake Cridland. Unfortunately Oskar Hall was unable to race due to illness.

In the girls, Phoebe Cridland podiumed each day in the U18 Girls and raced a great 5km freestyle to finish 3rd behind Darcie Morton in the Open Juniors.

Bentley Walker-Broose podiumed both days in the U18 Men included 3rd in Freestyle Distance and 2nd in U18 Classic Time trial.

Isabella Moon continues to progress up the ranking ladder coming 3rd in the U16 Classic Sprint and 4th in the Freestyle distance behind team mate Lulu Miskin. For an athlete who could only light train for 6mths after last season due to shin splints, Isabella is doing extraordinarily well against a very strong U16 girls age group.

Saskia Moon continues to achieve PB’s every time she starts in a XC or Biathlon race. Saskia always engages and does her best every time and we love having her on the NSW Biathlon team.

Our youngest team member for the weekend, Jake Cridland, performed astounding well. Jake strapped on XC skis for only the 2nd time during the July school holidays and came 4th in both his U12 races against athletes who have been on their skis for much longer.
