Darcie and Damika Arrive in Sweden!

Published Fri 06 Nov 2020

Darcie and Damika Morton have arrived in Sveg, Sweden for the Northern Hemisphere winter and IBU  competition season. Sveg is located some 5hours north of Stockholm by car and boasts a 30 lane biathlon range with 5km of bitumen roller-skiing track with floodlights!

It's a great training base for Darcie and Damika who are being hosted by the Zidek family, long term friends of Cameron Morton, and have been involved with coaching a number of Biathlon East Australia athletes over the years.

Tom Zidek raced with Cameron on Biathlon World Cup in the 2000’s and went on to be the Head Wax technician for Canada and Czech Republic. Tom’s Dad, Peter, coached Lucy Glanville and Damon Morton in Canmore, Canada in 2009 and Tom’s wife, Anna-Carin Zidek was a gold medallist for Sweden at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

Darcie will be initially training in Sveg (while finishing her Medical Science exams!) ahead of racing a number of Swedish National Championship events, leading into IBU Cups in January 2021.

With the current lack of snow in Sveg, the family is driving to Idre about 90mins away where they have been able to make snow and build a 2km track.  Darcie says her preparation is going well and she is looking forward to the first races of the season which will be in 2 weeks.

Go for it Darcie – we will be cheering for you!
