Published Sat 21 Nov 2020
Darcie Morton had her first taste of racing for the 2020-21 IBU season last weekend.
The races were SWE Cup races held at Idre Fjall where many IBU Cups are often held. The field was of very high quality with Olympic gold medalist from SWE Hanna Oberg leading the female entries. Conditions were tough as the tracks were soft with mostly man-made snow. The weather was over-cast with some fog.
The races followed the Short Individual format on Saturday (12.5km) with a Sprint on Sunday (7.5km). Darcie results were:
Individual: 39/54 (2, 2, 0, 2) 47.12.2mins 8.38.9mins behind
Sprint: 43/56 (2, 2) 30.29.0mins 6.54mins behind
Darcie at 20yrs old, was one of the youngest in the field, which included World Cup athletes from Sweden, Latvia, Great Britain, Estonia, Czech, Romania and Moldavia.
Darcie commented “I was happy with my skiing but my shooting could do with some improvement!”
Darcie in now back in her SWE homebase of Sveg and finishing off her ANU 2nd Semester Medical Science exams. Once these are complete, she will be focussing 100% on her training and racing with her main goal for this season a strong result at World Junior Championships which will be held in Austria at the end of February 2021.
