Fantastic Grant Success for NSW Biathlon
Published Mon 26 Jul 2021
NSW Biathlon has secured a $785,000 grant as part of the NSW Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund for the development of Laser Biathlon facilities at Jindabyne Sport and Recreation.
The Bushfire Local Economic Recovery (BLER) Package is part of the $4.5 billion bushfire support program co-funded by the Australian and NSW governments for bushfire recovery, response and preparedness in NSW.
BLER funding supports job retention and creation in bushfire impacted regions, strengthen community resilience and reduce the impact of future natural disasters.
Concept Plan
This project will upgrade and build new infrastructure facilities at the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre. NSW Biathlon will construct a roller ski & cycling pathway and install laser biathlon targets, administration area, storge space, new changerooms and bathrooms. The project will support regional sports tourism and is a space for the local sporting community to grow to support the recovery of sports in the region.
Importantly for the development of biathlon in NSW and Australia, it provides a summer biathlon facility for all-round use by the local Snowy Monaro community and visitors to the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre. It will provide a fantastic training and development facility for developing and high performance biathletes in NSW and across Australia, as the laser systems in operation will be latest technology including rifles being able to be carried by biathletes while roller-skiing.
NSW Biathlon wish’s to recognise the support of NSW Office of Sport - Jindabyne Sport & Recreation Centre, Snow Australia, Disabled Winter Sport Australia, Snowy Monaro Council, Jindabyne Cycling, Jindabyne Central School, Snowy Mountains Grammar, Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Jindabyne Little Athletics and the parents of local biathletes and XC skiers who provided their letters of support.
New Facilities will now be available at Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre
