Festival of Biathlon - Come and Try Biathlon in Perisher
Published Fri 29 Jul 2022
On Saturday 9th July, the Perisher Laser Range hosted a ‘Come and Try Biathlon’ session with the aim of introducing more people to the wonderful sport of biathlon. These sessions involved learning the basic components of a laser rifle and how to use it, as well as the correct body positioning required for shooting.
The sessions were supported by Biathlon East Australia athlete Will Neuhaus along with Greg Glanville and Toni Hulme, who did a wonderful job breaking down the basics of the sport to the newcomers.
Alongside of the Come and Try, a session was held for the PLC Sydney prep school. This session was led by an entire team of past and current PLC students. This included 2014 Olympian Lucy Glanville, 2020 Youth Olympian Chelsey Johnson, AUSXC National XC National team member Phoebe Cridland and Biathlon Australia 2022 YJWCH representative Ally Sydun-West. The girls showed the youngsters all their tips and tricks and we hope to see the tradition of national team XC Skiers and Biathletes coming from PLC Sydney continue.
A huge thank you to these athletes for donating their time to share the expertise and talent with the first timers, it made the sessions even more valuable and enjoyable.
