First Races of the Season

Published Mon 09 Dec 2019

Darcie Morton and Isabella Moon took to the snow in their first races of the season at Alpen Cup No 1 at Obertillaich (AUT) on Sat 7 Dec and Sun 8th Dec 2019. Racing format was a Sprint and Super Individual with Darcie competing in Junior Women and Isabella Youth Women 1.

Both girls had excellent results in their Sprint events, finishing in the middle of the results for their age groups with competitors from the very strong biathlon nations of GER, SUI, AUT, BLR, SLO, ROY all taking part. Darcie had very strong shooting (0,1) in her 7.5km Sprint and Izzy’s (2,1) following close behind in her 6km distance.

Sunday’s Super Individual was 5km in distance for all age groups and the girls were feeling the fatigue of their first double-header race weekend. Both girls struggled to replicate their fantastic shooting of Saturday with Darcie incurring 7 penalties and Izzy 13. But as they say “that’s biathlon” and what makes it so interesting (and challenging) from event to event.

In summary, however, a very pleasing first race weekend for the 2019-20 season or as coach Iris says “some good, some disappointment, but they learn”.
