Great Racing Results at Perisher
Published Fri 23 Jul 2021
Biathlon East Australia’s athletes had some great results at the NSW Freestyle Sprint and ACT Classic Distance XC Championships. Both races were held on Sunday 18th July due to the weather conditions being blizzard like and unsuitable for racing on Saturday.
The field was smaller than normal due to the on-going COVID19 restrictions, but it was still great for the athletes to get back to racing after the absence of all XC races in 2020.
There were some great podium results in the U16’s with Phoenix Sparke and Sean’Hope Craig taking out 1st place in both events. Our younger U12’s showed the results of their summer roller-skiig sessions with some great wins from brother and sister duo Ben (U12) and Hanna Wichgers (U12), with River (U14) and Zephyr Lusted (U12) joining them on the podium.
In the older age groups, Jack Hirst and Rhiannon Castle raced well in the sprints, but really came into their own in the distance classic event with Jack taking 2nd place in the Open Men and Rhiannon placing 2nd in the Junior Girls behind 2020 Youth Olympian Rosie Fordham.
It was great work from all the athletes and so nice to see racing back underway. Our thanks to SnowAUS’s Northern Management Committee for making the events possible.
