Great Term of Summer Training
Published Tue 22 Dec 2020
A great 10 week program of dryland training was held during Term 4. After the COVID interruption’s of winter and weeks of restricted training, it was great to be back to weekly biathlon training.
The sessions were focussed on technique, technique and more technique, whether it was on the lasers, the roller-skis or at the .22 Range. Fitness and strength building were also a focus, with new drills using resistance bands and basketballs introduced.
The “favourite” obstacle course with jumps, sharp turns, side stepping continued as part of the sessions, assisting new biathletes “find their feet” on their roller-skis through drills specifically to develop balance and competency. Once assessed as competent and safe, they joined their more experienced team-mates skiing loops and hills.
A regular Masters session was established as weekly numbers allowed a dedicated coach to be assigned to the Masters program. We hope to continue the Masters Program in 2021 and will be supporting the growth of program through providing equipment and coaching resources.
Summer dry-land training is such an important component of being either a XC skier or biathlete in Australia due to our short snow season and we encourage all who want to improve their XC skiing and biathlon to join us every week!
