Great Weekend of Biathlon in Jindabyne

Published Sat 16 Mar 2019

Interest in the winter Olympic sport of Biathlon is continuing to grow in the Snowies. NSW Biathlon together with East Australian Biathlon Club held a great weekend of dry-land biathlon technique development on the weekend of 9 and 10 March 2019.

The weekend was supported by Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre and Lake Crackenback Resort who made their facilities available at no cost to support the local athletes who attended.

The athletes practised their roller-ski technique which simulates on-snow cross country skiing in a dry-land environment. Agility drills around cones were set up together with the athletes roller-skiing up hills, to practice their on-snow up-hill cross country skiing technique.

Laser electronic biathlon rifles were used to teach the athletes how to stand and lie on a biathlon mat, ensuring their standing and prone positions were correct. Technique at the Range has a major impact on a biathlete’s accuracy of hitting targets in a biathlon competition.

Major thanks to Cameron Morton who led the Camp. The weekend was voted great fun by those attending.

Next weekend of biathlon activities in the Snowies is planned for 18/19 May and the June Long weekend of 8-10 June.
