Inaugural Laser Biathlon Summer Series Commences in Sydney
Published Sun 24 Mar 2019
NSW Biathletes of all ages and levels enjoyed a great morning of summer biathlon racing at Sydney Olympic Park. From our youngest U10’s to our Masters athletes, the scene was set for excitement, nerves and success!
Racing first were our international juniors who roller-skied two loops between each prone and standing Range visit. They were joined by our Masters and Youth biathletes who also challenged themselves to shoot both prone and standing, including penalty loops for misses.
The format was kept a little simpler for our 16years and younger Juniors who, following international example, kept their 2 visits to the Range as prone shooting only. For many of these biathletes it was their first biathlon event on roller-skis, and they handled it beautifully, stepping the corners and slowing as they came into the Range to prepare to shoot.
Congratulations to our winners:
10years and Under Girls Emily McGregor
10years and Under Boys Alberto Allan
12years and Under Girls Ava McCann
12years and Under Boys Oscar Hallis
14years and Under Boys Jack Hirst
16years and Under Boys Lachlan Greentree
Youth Boys Sam Martin
Junior Girls Darcie Morton
Master Men Jeremy Nagel
We had fantastic support from our Volunteer Officials without whom an Event such as we ran today is simply not possible. Many thanks also to our Coaches Cameron Morton and Lucy Glanville who managed the Range with perfection.
Our final thanks to Sydney Olympic Park for their support in allowing Newington Armory to be used for the event. The Armory is a perfect venue with its bitumen bike pathways which were used as loops and flat grass area for Range set-up.
Our 2nd Laser Biathlon Summer Series event for 2019, will be held in Jindabyne on 9th June. For more information email info@nswbiathlon.com.au or call 0406 420380.
