Laser Biathlon Out in Force at Perisher
Published Mon 26 Aug 2019
Over 120 training sessions took place leading into the Biathlon in East Australia Laser Biathlon Schools Junior Series held on Monday 19th August 2019.
It was a fantastic two days of laser biathlon at the Perisher Laser Biathlon Range, where athletes were taught how to come into a biathlon range, get onto their mat, adjust their rifle and accurately hit their 5 targets.
They learned to prepare for shooting by slowing down, poles in one hand and glasses up to adjust to the light for shooting. Once on their mat, using their rifle sights they took aim and once 5 targets where hit, they were taught how to efficiently stand up from their mat, position their skis and start to move off the Range, while putting their poles on.
Valuable time is lost on the shooting range when biathletes don’t efficiently manage their transition from skiing to shooting and shooting to skiing.
The benefits of the training sessions were clearly seen when the competency of racing in the Junior Series event showed improvement in skill and knowledge on how to manage their Range transition.
Biathlon in East Australia thanks those who took part in the upskilling training sessions and to our coaches for their capacity to coach across all levels from first-time to high performance.
