Long Weekend Camp was a Cracker!
Published Tue 09 Jun 2020
Biathletes from ACT, Vic and NSW came together for the traditional BEA June long weekend camp, held this year at Canberra Rifle Club.
The camp included roller-skiing, .22 shooting on Biathlon ACT’s 8 new metal targets, laser shooting for our emerging athletes and a strength and fitness session held by 2018 shadow Olympic team member, Damon Morton.
On Monday, the activities and training sessions were put into practice at a Stromlo Forest Park criterium track with a morning of individual racing and a fun mixed relay, partnering our emerging athletes with a senior athlete.
The aim of the June long weekend end camp is always to put the finishing touches onto summer training and transition the athletes into readiness for winter training and racing. And while 2020 will be a season with a difference due to COVID19, it didn’t stop the athletes working hard and getting the most from their training sessions.
The individual racing was a great opportunity for BEA’s emerging athletes to put together the individual components of biathlon racing, some for the first time. For our experienced athletes, the racing allowed them to work on the parts of biathlon that the coaches has upskilled them on over the weekend.
Many thanks to Camp Head Coach Cameron Morton for his ever-enthusiastic encouragement of the athletes and Canberra Rifle Club for providing access once again to their great facilities for biathlon.
