Masters Biathlon

The NSW Masters program commenced earlier this year with great success. A regular group of master’s biathletes now meet every week to improve their technique and practice biathlon. Co-ordinated very efficiently by Masters biathlete Gary McGregor, the program is going from strength to strength with attendees now becoming proficient with laser shooting on prone and standing size targets.
The Masters competition at the recently held NSW Summer Biathlon Series Event 1 was focused with shooting and counting of penalty loops generating lots of intensity! Term 2 sessions in Sydney will re-commence on Sunday 5th May.
Meanwhile in Canberra, Biathlon ACT is finding great interest as well in the Nation’s Capital from Masters athletes. Challenged by combining roller-skiing and shooting a tiny target which is a maximum of 90mm wide, the ACT based Master’s program is expanding nicely under coach Cameron Morton. The ACT Masters program re-commences on Monday 6th May with a weekend of biathlon in Canberra being held on 1 and 2 June.
Internationally, a team of Australian biathletes head to Europe each European winter to take part in the Biathlon World Masters Competition. With many different age classes, the competition is a great option to consider, for those with the competitiveness to go all the way! This year, the Biathlon Ashes competition was introduced by regular attendees at World Masters between Australian and England. Click here to read our earlier story on “The Biathlon Ashes”.
