NSW, ACT & NE Biathlon (VIC) Training Camp
Published Fri 19 Apr 2019
NSW and ACT biathletes travelled to Wodonga in Victoria to combine with NE Biathlon for a school holiday biathlon camp. This was the 2nd time the combined biathlon camp has been held since the opening of the SSAA Wodonga Biathlon Range in August 2018 and the Range offers a superb facility for the development and training of biathletes in Australia.
The Camp was led by coaches Lyn-Maree Cullen and Cameron Morton and supported by biathlon’s “elder statesman”, Bob Cranage, who provided Range Offer supervision. Athletes were coached on .22 and laser biathlon including coming into the Range on roller-skis, getting onto the mat, pole and body placement and shouldering the rifle.
Roller-ski sessions worked on technique and endurance with a hill-bounding session also included.
With winter rapidly approaching, the Camp was a great lead into the next 10 weeks of training and pin-pointing for our aspiring state and national team biathletes where their focus needs to be. It was great to have a number of potential Australian 2020 Winter Youth Olympians at the Camp so they could train together.
Many thanks to NE Biathlon for making the SSAA Wodonga facility available and for their great comradeship and coaching support.

All the athletes had a great time and the progress in their biathlon skills was very evident.
