The inaugural NSW Laser Biathlon Junior series took place on Monday 21^st August 2017. The racing comprised of one loop and one prone shooting for Divisions 4-6, and two loops and two prone shoots for Divisions 1-3.Penalty loops were skied for target misses.

Six divisions of athletes from Primary school to High School took part with 60 athletes racing and over 90 athletes taking part in the 3 days of training at the Perisher Valley Biathlon Range prior to the race.

Many of the race entrants had not cross country skied before, but the added interest of laser shooting as part of the training and racing, enticed them to cross country ski for their first time. Across all the racing divisions, new participants into the sport of biathlon featured on the podium as well as NSW’s experienced biathletes. It was also great to see some of NSW’s state level XC skiers get involved and try biathlon for the first time.
