Perisher School Holiday's Biathlon
Published Fri 16 Jul 2021
Laser biathlon and cross country skiing development were the focus for the 3 weeks of Biathlon East Australia’s July school holiday’s coaching sessions at Perisher.
Held by NSW Biathlon, the sessions experienced the full range of weather, with sunshine, blizzards and some difficult snow days! The Camp was led by BEA’s Head Coach in NSW, Olympian Lucy Glanville with support from 2020 Youth Olympian Chelsey Johnson and Australian XC Junior Team member Phoebe Cridland.
The focus was on technique development both classic and skate and developing laser skills. Approaching the Range efficiently, positioning quickly and fast exits from the biathlon mat were all part of each day’s activities.
At the end of the 2nd week the NSWACT State Championships time trial was held which given the difficult snow conditions consisted of two parts - a XC skiing time trail and laser shooting accuracy test. This allowed the athletes to put into practice the skills learned on snow and over their summer training sesisons.

It was great work from our coaches and parent volunteers to ensure the sessions and State Championships timetrial were able to go ahead despite many athletes and their families being unable to attend due to COVID19 restrictions in Sydney and parts of NSW.
