Roller Ski Champions!

Published Fri 03 Nov 2017

A number of NSW Biathlon athletes and members attended the inaugural Sydney Biathlon Club roller ski race (a branch of Australian/Victoria Biathlon Association) on Saturday 29th October 2017. The attendees roller-skied , joined in the fun, helped out as officials and had some great results.

The event was held Western Sydney Parklands and it was a warm and sunny day. The bitumen track was a flat 3.4 km through trees, scrub and creeks. The race was 15 second intervals with age divisions of Under 17, Masters (over 35 years old) and Open class. The competitors varied in experience from Olympians to new biathlon members and a variety of roller skis and Skikes were used.

The overall winner of the event was Nour Eldin Tour in a great time of 8mins 11secs. Lulu Miskin won the U17 Girls with Izzy Moon 2nd.

NSW Biathlon’s Development coach Lucy Glanville, in a return to racing, surprised herself at being so close behind 2018 Olympic Winter Games Shadow Team member Jillian Colebourn, with only 27secs separating them.

The morning was a great for Biathlon in NSW, and fantastic work by Mark Elliot and Gen and Phil Colebourn with the organisation.
