School Holiday Training at Perisher
Published Sat 18 Jul 2020
It was a tough start to the school holiday programs for BEA’s NSW based athletes. The snow was very thin with the XC trails and laser biathlon range not having enough snow cover for programs to be held.
Nevertheless, coaches Lucy Glanville, Chelsey Johnson and Phoebe Cridland, were able to hold some great early morning training sessions along the road to Charlotte Pass. We very much thank NPWS for facilitating the alternative training location. The snow was however, thin and by mid-morning soft and sticky. This caused the afternoon sessions to revert to dry-land with laser shooting, hill-bounding and roller-skiing.
The pathway athletes used the afternoon sessions to continue to develop their fitness and technique with the development athletes becoming more competent on their roller-skis, approach to the laser range and hitting the laser targets.
The pathway athletes were kindly welcomed by Snowy Shooters at the Berridale Range for a number of afternoon .22 practice sessions. The sessions were possible due to IBU Biathlon being approved as a match by NSW Firearms Registry for the Berridale Range in March this year.
It really was a fantastic collective effort by all involved and continued to develop the spirit of the Biathlon East Australia “biathlon family” that is so important as BEA seeks to grow, be inclusive and support participants at all levels to achieve their goals.
