Strong Trimester 1 for NSW Biathletes in Europe and North America

Published Sun 24 Dec 2017

NSW Biathlon biathlete Darcie Morton led the charge of athletes in Europe racing at IBU Cup 2 (Lenzerheide, SUI) and 3 (Obertilliach, AUT). After having to withdraw from IBU Cup due to illness, Darcie came back strongly to record the best IBU Cup point’s results for Australia so far in the 2017-18 season. The results were also qualifying results for IBU Cup in Trimester 2.

Damon Morton had a successful return from injury, racing in the Single Mixed Relay at IBU Cup No 3 and will now race in Trimester 2 at IBU Cup 4 and 5. We wish Damon all the best in his quest for an Olympic qualifying result, even though it will be quite difficult now. Damon is the only Australian athlete with the individual qualifying points for Olympic selection and his aim in Trimester 2 is to lower his points to qualify for allocation of an Olympic wild card.

In Europe for the first time is Isabella Moon at the Australian Biathlon Livigino Training Camp and Archie Gordon who is travelling and training with Damon and Darcie Morton under the team management of NSW Biathlon coach Cameron Morton. Both Izzy and Archie are learning the ropes of being a biathlete and will be training on great facilities and entering a few races to further their careers as NSW and Australian biathletes.

Phoebe Cridland will be joining the Australian XC Junior Team later in January for her first taste of a European Training Camp, while brother Jake will be initially in Europe before travelling to Canada and developing his XC skiing alongside of his family holiday.

Lulu Miskin will be spending time in Canada for her 2nd season and working under Canadian Coach John Jacques focusing on developing her biathlon skills and entering a number of Calforex Cup races. Will Neuhaus continues to train and attend school in Canada and will be travelling to Europe in early February to attend World Juniors in Estonia.

Bentley Walker- Broose heads off soon to USA to continue his XC training and racing connection of the last few seasons which has seen him develop into one of AUS most promising junior XC skiers.

NSW Biathlon wishes all its athletes great success in 2018 with their training and racing. .
