Summer Biathlon Begins
Published Fri 05 Oct 2018
NSW Biathlon joined with North East Biathlon for its first 2018 summer biathlon training camp after winter.
The Camp took place in Wodonga (VIC) and made use of the newly finished biathlon range at SSAA Wodonga Shooting Range, which opened during winter. With 8 lanes and a combination of electronic and rope-pulled targets, the Range is the first in Australia to have a bitumen roller-ski track which allows biathletes to roller-ski into the Range and shoot, simulating as closely as possible an on-snow biathlon experience.
The Camp was led by NSW Biathlon Head Coach, Cameron Morton along with Lyn-Maree Cullen and Bob Cranage. The coaches led the athletes through a series of shooting drills, roller-ski agility drills, hill bounding and hiking on the slopes and a roller-ski endurance session.
On the last day it was back to the Range for some further shooting technique coaching and putting together the previous two days of training.
NSW Biathlon would like to thank the coaches and Paul Cullen for their great engagement with the athletes and managing the different levels and stages of development. The sessions were fun and saw the athletes working hard in a positive and inclusive format, which included the younger laser athletes who attended.
We look forward to our next visit to the SSAA Wodonga Biathlon Range and its on-going development.
