Summer Training in Austria for Darcie Morton

Published Wed 25 Aug 2021

Darcie Morton has moved her summer training base from Sweden to Austria as she begins to prepare of the 2021-22 IBU season.

After finishing the 2020-21 IBU season with her best ever results and with an IBU ranking as the No 1 biathlete in Australia, Darcie Morton made the tough decision to stay in Europe rather than return to Australia. Concerns about getting back to Europe, a possible COVID affected 2021 winter season in Australia and the opportunity to train at great facilities and under the guidance of her European based coaches were all instrumental in her decision to stay in Europe.

After spending the first 5mths in Sweden at the Biathlon Centres in Ostersund and Sveg, Darcie has now moved Obertilliach in Austria to continue her summer training. From Obertilliach, Darcie will be attending the Austrian National Summer Championships in Hochfilzen and Oberltilliach in upcoming weeks.

Obertiliach has fantastic summer training facilities and Darcie will be developing her fitness and edurance through hiking and bike riding, increasing her strength and of course improving her shooting technique, accuracy and speed.

Obertilliach has always been a great base for Australian biathletes and is the training base of choice for Biathlon East Australia’s overseas development  tours. The town and its sports facilities are super-supportive of our Australian athletes and the Obertilliach Range is now of IBU Cup standard with 30 lanes of electronic targets, high quality XC ski trails and lights for night training.
