Talented Athlete Workshops Commence

Published Fri 27 Sep 2019

In Australia, biathletes can almost come from any Snowsports discipline! And, most likely, a biathlete commences their snowsports career in alpine skiing or might do some cross-country skiing, but could also come from a moguls or snowboard background!

With the on-going success of the Laser Biathlon Junior Series, now in its 3rd year, inviting talented athletes who enter the Junior Series to biathlon workshops in their local area has become a key initiative to foster the interest in biathlon generated by the Junior series.

The first Talented Athlete workshop for 2019, was held at the Perisher Laser Biathlon Range with 10 talented and local biathletes from Snowy Monaro region attending. The on-snow workshop focussed on the key elements of biathlon, including both standing and prone positions and transition from skiing to the laser mat with breathing controlled and heart rate coming down.

A summer biathlon session was also held, focussing on developing roller-ski skills for summer training and dry-land laser transition to mat skills.

The new Workshop will be held in Canberra on 7 Oct 2019, Melbourne on 9/10 Nov with Southern Highlands scheduled for 16 Nov 2019. A date in Sydney will be announced shortly.
