Training Day in Southern Highlands (NSW)

Published Mon 25 Nov 2019

Biathlon in East Australia continued its philosophy of providing training opportunities at multiple locations, with a 2 session training day being held in the Southern Highlands.

Athletes from Sydney and Canberra joined their local team-mates for a morning roller-ski session which focussed firstly on technique before an hour of distance roller-skiing along Redhills Road. With its curves and hills and no line markings, Redhills Road is perfect for roller-skiing with a flat 1km stretch, which then lengthens to 7km to support endurance skiing.

The afternoon sessions were divided into .22 Try Shooting and an experienced biathlon training session. The sessions were held at the newly renovated NSW Office of Sport Southern Highlands Regional Shooting Complex which is great for biathlon. The athletes were able to run on the vacant area directly next to the shooting range utilizing cross-biathlon for their training session.

The mild weather of the Highlands made it a perfect venue for the two training sessions and together with the ease of travel made for a great day of training.
