Trying Biathlon in Sydney
Published Mon 04 Nov 2019
Biathlon in East Australia held its 3rd Try Biathlon event in Sydney over the weekend. Focussing on engaging with on-snow laser competitors together with Masters and first timers on roller-skis, the 2hr event under sunny skies was the perfect introduction to biathlon.
The session catered for all levels and attendees ranging from 9yr old XC skiers wanting to try laser biathlon, to teenage snowboarders, to Parkrun athletes and on-snow laser competitors who wanted to start dry-land training. One fan, came along from watching biathlon on TV and wanting to give it a go!
Led by 2014 Sochi Olympian, Lucy Glanville and 2020 Youth Olympian, Chelsey Johnson, the attendees were shown how to roller-ski through an agility course, one-ski drills for balance and how to approach the laser range and get onto their mat efficiently. While Lucy then continued her watchful eye at the Range, Chelsey took the more advanced to try the downhill run on their roller-skis.
At the end of the 2hrs, it was some very exhausted, but now very accomplished try biathletes, who finished the session.
We’d very much like to thank Sydney Olympic Park for their kind use of Newington Armory, our coaches Lucy and Chelsey and the fabulous attendees and parents who took part in one of the best Try Biathlon sessions held.
