Published Fri 01 Sep 2017

Darcie Morton made a clean sweep of all Biathlon and Cross Country races she entered this season. Morton, currently studying Yr 12 through Distance Education Victoria (DECV), took the No1 podium position in:

  • NSWXC Junior Sprint Championships
  • Victorian Biathlon U19 Sprint Championships
  • Australian Biathlon U19 Individual Championships
  • Australian Biathlon U19 Sprint Championships
  • Australian XC Junior Sprint Championships
  • Australian XC Junior Distance Championships
  • Kangaroo Hoppet Female 21km Birkebeiner Loppet

While Morton’s primary focus for the season was to ensure a strong training block towards starting in IBU Cup No 1 in Norway in November, such was her dominance in both biathlon and XC racing this season that she also claimed the No 1 spot each time she put on her race skis.

Morton, from far East Gippsland and a member of NSW Biathlon for many years, has been training alongside her NSW team-mates, including brother Damon Morton, under Head Coach Daniel Graf, while studying German and Chemistry as part of her 2yr program to complete her Yr 12 studies.

She will be leaving Australia in mid-October having been selected to the 2018 shadow Olympic Winter Games team, to continue her training in Europe and prepare for 2017-18 Olympic qualifying events.
