Who’s Who Overseas This Season – Part 1
Published Sun 13 Jan 2019
Our State Team athletes are in Europe with coaches, Cameron Morton and Lucy Glanville, while some of our younger athletes are in Canada, cross country skiing and honing their biathlon skills.
Heading the team overseas in Europe is our most experienced biathlete and 2016 Youth Olympian, 19 year old Darcie Morton. She’s joined by Youth Girls, Lulu Miskin, Isabella Moon, Chelsey Johnson, and Junior Boys, Archie Gordon and Will Neuhaus.
The main game for our State Team biathletes is IBU Youth/Junior World Championships in Slovakia at the end of January 2019. And for Darcie Morton, she will also be competing at Cross Country World Juniors in Finland.
Read on to find our who who's ...…………….
Darcie Morton (19) has been in Europe since mid-November after finishing her Year 12 exam in early November. This season Darcie has split her training time between the Australian Junior Cross Country Team and NSW Biathlon Team. So far this season, Darcie has raced an IBU Junior Cup with solid results before moving back to focus on her XC skiing with Australian XC in the lead-up to XC World Juniors. Darcie is keen to see how she will fare at Biathlon World Juniors in her first year as a Junior (U22) biathlete.
Lulu Miskin (16) 2018-19 is Lulu’s first season in Europe. Prior to this season, Lulu spent her training time in Canada but switched to Europe this season in order to race IBU Junior Cups and World Juniors. Lulu attend the IBU Development Camp in Switzerland for the first 2 weeks of December, competed in 2 IBU Junior Cups and is now enjoying a strong training block as part of the NSW Biathlon Team’s preparation for Biathlon World Juniors.
Isabella Moon (15) Isabella (or Izzy as she’s know) is in her 2nd season in Europe. Izzy put her toe in the water in Europe last season and the 3 week training block she experienced confirmed her love of biathlon and enticed Izzy back to Europe this season with the NSW Biathlon Team. Izzy is focussing on developing her shooting, especially her standing shooting. Izzy will join fellow team mates, Darcie, Lulu, Will and Archie at World Juniors in Slovakia.
Archie Gordon (19) first tasted biathlon in 2017-18 on tour with NSW Biathlon. He decided biathlon is for him and has gone ahead in leaps and bounds during 2018 winning the 2018 Australian Junior Sprint Championship. Like Darcie, Archie is also a member of the Australian Junior XC Team and has spent some weeks with them to focus on developing his XC skiing. Back with the NSW Biathlon tour just after Christmas, Archie’s has focused on his shooting and has just completed a race in Italy, coming in ahead of Australia’s 2016 Winter Youth Biathlon Olympian.
We wish the athletes the best of luck at the upcoming Biathlon Youth/Junior World Championships.
Part 2 of Who’s Who will include Chelsey Johnson, Damika Morton, Alberto Allan, Will Neuhaus, Kyle McGregor and our coaches Cameron Morton and Lucy Glanville.
